Roasted Red Pepper Sauce with Red Onions and Spicy Sausage Flat Bread - A Lesson on Real Cheese with Jen and Debbie
Everybody loves pizza and you can make this one at home tonight with a simple Roasted Red Pepper Sauce instead of the traditional tomato sauce. Skip the meat and make it totally Vegetarian. Head to your local Wal-Mart, get a bag of fresh pizza dough for under $1.00 and the rest of the ingredients. You'll have the entire house filled with the aroma of freshly made pizza, in less time than it takes to order a pricy pizza and wait on the delivery. Get ready to cozy up to some Saturday Football with a big, hot slice of my Roasted Red Pepper Sauce with Red Onion and Spicy Sausage Flatbread Pizza.
My loving and knowledgeable co-workers, Jen and Debbie schooled me about using pre-packaged shredded cheese. Debbie is Italian (she's been to Italy) and Jen knows and reads absolutely everything. I'm reformed now. I learned 3 things about fresh, real cheese:
1- Fresh packaged cheese is a little wet if you get a block in a sealed package. You may not see that moisture with a deli wrapped block of cheese but it's still good stuff. Jen said we don't really know what the white stuff is on pre-shredded cheese, but why take chances. That white stuff seems to affect the way the cheese melts too. Again, why take chances. Who knows what that white stuff is anyway?
2- Buying cheese in the block is so much cheaper and more flavorful than pre-sliced or shredded cheese. You get considerably more cheese when you buy it in the block. Debbie said that we need to look at the package content to ensure we're getting real cheese. The Sargento brand commercials shed a lot on what real cheese is.
3- It really takes no time to shred up a cup or two. You can store the remaining cheese in the freezer if necessary.
(In my sarcastic voice, thanks Jen and Debbie...sigh...rolling my eyes)
So we now know how to make a new sauce for flatbread pizza. We know how to purchase fresh cheese and we know where to get fresh pizza dough for less than $1.00. Time to kiss the cook.
True story. I ate the whole thing in 2 days. With no shame.
